Homeschool Debut Classes

For the Jeffersonville area homeschool youth, something exciting was about to happen. It's usually the 16-28 year olds that get all the excitement, but this time was different. For two years now, Brother Joseph has been planning something special for homeschoolers. We all know that homeschooling can be tough. It can be a struggle to learn day in and day out in the same environment.

On September 22nd, Brother Joseph opened up the YF Youth Center (YFYC) for some special classes focused around the Message for homeschoolers ages 6-12, along with some free study hall time where the youth could work on their individual homeschool work and get some one-on-one teacher help. He also opened up a special "Cub Day" class for ages 4-5 homeschool cubs. The goal was to help the homeschooling families by bringing their children together so they can fellowship and learn from each other.

The 6-12 debut class was last Wednesday, and as you can guess, the turnout was great! Below is a report from one of the sisters who helped.

The first day of YF Homeschool (YFHS) was an exciting success! The children piled in the front door with wide eyes, big smiles, and some with backpacks bigger than themselves! After checking out their classrooms and meeting up with their buddies, the children carried their lunch bags to the lunch room. Excited declarations about tasty treats in their lunches were voiced while waiting for everyone to file into the room. A Brother greeted the children on behalf of Brother Joseph and YF. He gave a short description of what the school year may hold and shared the story that we all love, about the slave. He reminded the children they are sons and daughters of The King and that we should act accordingly. There was plenty of clapping and shouting before prayer was offered over the lunch.

After lunch, the children headed to their first class, a Spanish elective. Much attention was given to the Spanish teachers, and then their newly learned Spanish words were put into action. The children said “Dios te Bendiga!” “Yo amo a Jesus!” “Yo me llamo…” along with other phrases back and forth to each other. Some classes turned it into a game between the girls and boys. The hour passed very quickly before the last half hour of the day was spent outside playing kick ball and other games.

Happy children loaded into their vehicles to head home. Many parents have said that the rest of the day was spent sharing all the exciting events, practicing flashcards, and waiting with high anticipation for the next day of YFHS Classes!
