Ode To Still Waters

A young Sister in High School wrote this beautiful "ode" for her English class assignment, and wanted to share it with others. An ode is a lyric poem in the form of an address to a particular subject. She chose a memorable subject that remains close to her heart.

Upon the beauteous grounds of Still Waters youthful souls gather round, Some with bundles of burden weighing them down, Yet in deep anticipation every heart abounds. Activities roll out; paintball, kayaking, and go-karts, amongst others, Previous cares of life that had distraught the hopeful mind, Begin to dissolve like the dew-drops on flowers.

Soon the bustles of the day soothingly settle down, The soft, setting sun animates the sky, And the warming rays rest over the youth who are speckled around the lake, sound. Bibles are opened and heads are bowed, Each one communing with God in the coolness of the evening, Lives are being touched, hearts are being changed, and promises vowed.

Once more, everyone is drawn by the crackling of a brisk fire and the wisping of a curling smoke, From across the moonlit lake, one would hear the sounds of reverent, glorifying praise (traveling with the happy, whirling winds), Along with weeps of repenting, seeking hearts. Feet tenderly make their way down to the sacred sands by the lake, And one by one they break into the gentle, lapping waters.

These lives wish to express that they have been changed by the heavenly Father, and are baptized in His Name. Minute by minute, day by day, We forget time, though we are still bound; for the dark blanket of midnight falls. Oh Time, why must thou never pause in thy race thou dost run? We will never forget the special moments and memories, We go home with our spirits renewed and a change in our life, As I ponder upon what God has done for me, my hope is to be contagious to the world.

Instead of exchanging goodbyes, we say “Till we meet again,” For though we depart, we long for a greater reuniting time, when we shall separate no more, amen.
