A Light In This Darkness

It's not usually the big things that we do that draw people to ask why, but simply living the life of a born again Christian. Then people ask, "why do you act so different than all the others? Why do you have such long hair and always wear a dress? Why are you always so happy?" Your life can become so salty that others become thirsty, and you gain opportunities like the sister below to let your light shine in this dark world.
Dear Young Foundations
I wanted to share with you my experience in the home mission field. Last week I went to the dentist. I was going to a new one, and when the hygienist had finished cleaning my teeth, she said "I noticed your long hair and skirt," and asked me if it was law that we couldn't wear anything other or cut our hair. I explained that it wasn't, but that the Bible does say not to, but when you totally surrender to God it becomes desire, not law. She seemed very interested, and I am hoping to get a chance to take her a Message book.
She asked me if it offended me for her to ask, and I said no, to me it was quite the opposite. I felt honored and encouraged that we truly are a light in this darkness, and that we are not completely made fun of, but that there are those who desire to be like us.
I've often said this: "You be salty; the earth will be thirsty." He said, "You're the salt of the earth." You just get salty, the earth will get thirsty. You live such in your neighborhood and around your people, the people know, say, "There's a real Christian; I'll tell you that. If there ever was a Christian there she is, or there he is." That's the way to be. I'd rather have that in my heart than all the gifts there is, God has in His Bible. 55-1111
