Getting To Know Each Other
Saturday, September 04, 2010
Sometimes it takes a few days at a camp for the youth and staff to get to know one another, and a few days is all we had. So at this year's Ukraine Camp, we incorporated a little way to speed up the process.
After the service the first night of camp, we handed out a sheet of paper laden with tasks to complete. First off, the youth had to find each one of the staff and speakers for the camp, introduce themselves with a God bless you, and have them sign their names. Secondly, they had to find a person at camp who had become a Christian within the last two years, between two and five years, between ten and twenty years, and for more than twenty-five years. The next task was to find ten people at camp whose names were found in the Bible, and lastly to list at least five people in the Bible who were imprisoned.
Even with the language barrier, this was a fun and doable task to participate in. It was told that all those who completed the entire sheet, would have their names posted on Young Foundations website. For the remaining three days of camp, you could see these white sheets of paper flying all over the place. Nearly everywhere we walked, we would be stopped with a loving handshake, a "God bless you," and "please sign here." It was a blessing getting to know the youth a little better, and it created an avenue for them to become more comfortable around one another.
Here is a list of those who were able to finish the project and turn in their papers on time.
