A Burning Desire Friday, July 24, 2009

We received this encouraging letter from a 17 year old brother in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I sincerely hope and believe this testimony will be a blessing to you, as it still is to me.

I was born in a strong Christian family, thus I was rightly influenced as I grew. I was what Jesus would call, “Not too far from the truth.” I grew up a very well-behaved boy I must say, but still I did not have that indwelt rest and satisfaction because I had not received the Holy Ghost. I used to enjoy going to church, but I tended to like the music and fellowship with friends more than meeting and hearing from God. I used to talk and make my life right (confessing) with my mom a lot of times, but I did not have Him, which is why I would go back and do the very same thing that I had confessed. In school I was an excellent pupil, at home and at church the same. But according to God’s Word, I knew I was wanting.

A revival broke out among us in 2007 that brought me a step closer to my goal, which was housing the snow white Dove. Toward the beginning of September 2007, we went to a meeting in Fort Masvingo. I really had a burning desire to meet with God and receive the Holy Ghost, as a number of the youths testimonies inspired me and made me, like Bartimaues, cry the more when I knew He was passing by. Unfortunately I didn’t receive Him during the meetings and gave up and told God I’d just live the best I could according to His Word, and when He wanted He would seal me. But I didn’t know God had a better plan for me. While traveling back on the bus sharing testimonies and songs, God sealed me with His Holy Spirit. Thanks be to God.

From then on I have never been the same. My desires, pleasures, and life are all centered around Him and His Word. From the bus experience, two days later I gladly went and made my life right with the pastor, which I am still doing. As the prophet said, “You can make mistakes after receiving the Holy Ghost.” But the Holy Ghost will drive you to repentance, as I have experienced.

It is true the road is real tough after you receive the Holy Ghost; trials, temptations, and stumblings as the guns of the enemy are on us, but the Great Creator who is within us will keep on granting us overcoming power. Press on fellow Christian youth, God is more eager to fill you than you are to receive Him. Fulfill all righteousness and He will do His part. (Acts 2:38)
