Let Your Light So Shine Before Men

September 03, 1961

The life of a lost soul in a dark world is a sad thing to see. The gloom and darkness that surrounds them is shadowed by the merciless devil. Time and time again he hits them with a false illusion of life and what makes it complete. There’s no peace, no joy, no love or hope for something that’s real and lasting. They never seem to overcome the overpowering odds, unless a light is found, so they're sadly imprisoned in their sinful conditions.

A light in a dark room can go a long ways. Just the slightest hint can travel an incredible distance. It may just be a gleam of sunlight or a faintly-lit candle that pierces the darkness, but relief is found. In a dark world and deep into a lost soul, that light may be you! You may be the only God that a desperate heart will ever see, and the light in your life can bring that soul out of darkness. It can bring a ray of hope to a hopeless child. It can be a sword of defense to a defenseless soldier. It can lead a cold, dead heart to a loving Father. For the sake of others, we must let our lights shine and act as billboards for Christ. The world uses advertisements to attract the attention of passing consumers, and it’s a proven success. So why can’t we advertise Christ by the life that we live in the sight of others.

If someone is searching for God in their life, then they are bound to be looking for signs that lead to Him. “Let your light so shine before men,” and be a billboard for Christ, so that others might see the way.

What are you displaying on your billboard of life? Is it representing the things of Christ? Are you attracting hungry souls to the Kingdom of God? Is your light shinning in this dark world?

Each one of you, from tonight on, remember you are God's billboards. And you're--you're God's advertising agent. Now, the world will look at you to see what Christ is. So we don't want to smear a big lot of stuff on there that testify about things that we really are not. Let's first be that. And then when we be that, then the world will see Christ in you and me.”
