My Poem

Poems often tell a story and paint a picture of a scene in the life of an individual. This particular poem vividly portrays the seeking life of a person who is overcome by darkness, but finds victory in Christ.
I wrote a poem that I hope may be a blessing to other young believers, to encourage them.
May God bless you
I look up at the sky, birds wheeling freely
I spread my arms, wishing for wings
To be free, free to see ever so clearly
Unbound, beyond all worldly things
I look and see Jesus, holding out His hand
His face kind, He beckons me
I know in my heart, I can drift from land
I can fly and be able to see
But yet I hesitate, still bound to the earth
Then chains encircle me, pulling me down
Down, down into the filth of my birth
I cry out, fighting so the face won’t frown
Still I sink deeper, my heart dark as night
Shrouded in death and misery, beyond all help
Or so I think my body unwilling to fight
Then I see Him hanging on the cross, nary a yelp
Then I know that He died so I could be free
I knew then that there was no fear
For the war was already won, I could see
The chains of things I used to hold dear…
Fell away, and I rose with mighty wings
To join the few elect in the sky
Each a story tells, or a song sings
Praising the Lord for not passing us by
