Cub Corner Golf Day

The beautiful Autumn weather was begging to be enjoyed, so this past Saturday we decided to host a miniature golf tournament here at VGR for the 8-12 year old Jeffersonville kids. There were about 45 competitors in all, and over 300 moms, dads, grandparents, and siblings. Everyone under 12 years old and their families were invited to attend.
While the 8-12 year olds were battling it out on the putt-putt course, the younger group was trying their hand at an obstacle course. With the clock running, they would crawl, then jump, then crawl again. Then they made their way over a crooked balance beam and finally through a set of tires. As you can imagine, the kids were well aware of their best time and always trying to shave off a second or two to set a new record. There was also a jumping castle, and "Zippo" the clown who loved to tie balloons.
All of this fun worked up an appetite. There was no shortage of funnel cakes, hamburgers, fries, and soft drinks to fuel the games.
The main event was the putt-putt tournament. As the kids made their way around the course, they were met by older YF youth at the start of each hole. The older kids were gate-keepers, armed with a list of questions. Before you were allowed to start the hole, you had to answer a question correctly. You could hear shouts of "April 6th!" or "It was Moses!" cutting through the giggles and laughter of the putt-putt contenders.
Out of 35 competitors, 8 people made it to the final round (7 boys and 1 girl). The field narrowed down to four, then finally down to two.
The only girl that made it to the playoffs found herself on the championship hole. It was boy vs. girl. The boys were cheering for the boy, and the girls for the girl. After tying on the first try, they would have to square off again. They carefully lined up each shot, and finally, the King of putt-putt was crowned; actually it was a Queen! Congratulations to Allison Matty on showing up all the boys!
At the end of the day, there were some tired kids and smiling parents. A good time was had by all!
