Friday In Romania
Friday, August 29, 2008
Last Friday, youth from around Romania gathered at a remote place called Valea Draganului for the first ever Young Foundations camp. Many cities from as far away as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, and even Budapest, Hungary were represented at the camp. Those who made the trip would not be disappointed. Over the next few days we will share the events of the camp with you through pictures, testimonies, and music. We hope that you enjoy seeing and hearing about these precious young believers from half-a-world away.
Friday was the first day to really get to know the Romanian youth. Brothers Adam Evans and Isaac Toy from Jeffersonville, and the Buitenkamp family from the European office in Holland, spent the day playing games and teaching the details of famous American pastimes such as Corn-Hole, Hillbilly Golf, and Frisbee. It took a few hours of fun before everyone got relaxed and realized that we were of the same Spirit, even though we live thousands of miles apart.
Friday evening was a time that won't soon be forgotten. The 160 young people were brought to a hillside on the edge of the property. The hillside overlooked a small village that was nestled between mountainous farmland. As the sun set behind the hills, the delightful sound of Romanian songs of worship echoed throughout the village. The beautiful singing was interrupted occasionally by short testimonies given by the YF staff about the work that is taking place around the world. The crackle of the bonfire and chirping of crickets seemed to be right in tune with the beautiful Romanian songs. It would be close to midnight before the singing stopped and everyone laid down for the night, looking forward to a busy day on Saturday.
