The Influence Of Another
October 13, 1962
Influence - the action or process of producing effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of another or others.
Influence is a strong tool that Satan can use against us, yet when put into the hands of God, it’s a tool that can be used for us and through us. When we are young and still searching for a path in life, we are most vulnerable to the influence of others. That’s when Satan tries his hardest to steer us from the path of righteousness.
The prophet Isaiah was a prime example. He was vindicated of God, called from his birth, and predestinated for this position. He influenced the lives of many people and great kings. But like us today, he was once young and equally influenced by others. The young King Uzziah had become a great hero and influence in his life. He was a godly king, raised by godly parents, and was loved by Isaiah and the people. Yet in all his righteousness he became lifted up in pride. He no longer followed the influence of God and perished at the hand of the Lord. Isaiah realized that he had done wrong by leaning on the flesh of a king.
Uzziah was an influence to Isaiah until he turned from God’s Word. It wasn’t until then that Isaiah separated himself from the denominational ring and followed God alone. He became an influence to others through God’s leadership.
You choose the influences you allow in your life. The kinds of friends you hang out with, the things you do for entertainment, the church you fellowship with, the pastor you draw guidance from, all of these things influence your life. Some may lead you closer to God, while others can lead you down a path of sin and darkness.
Brother Branham told us to,
“Watch what you're doing. Always follow that one who's influenced and is backed up by God, that you know what--God is with them. Don't follow wrong influence.”
