Letting Off The Pressure
May 13, 1962
Just the other day, I listened to the message "Letting Off The Pressure." The following day was a Saturday, and my day was full of things to do. I started early that morning to complete all of my tasks, so I could have the afternoon off. But nothing was running smooth, and time was speeding up. Everyone seemed to be in a frenzy and stressed to the max. I could feel the boiling pressure everywhere, as I rushed from destination to destination. From the bustling cars on the streets, to the disturbed waitress at the restaurant, to the grocery clerk who looked like she would explode if she didn't get her cigarette break, everyone acted as if something was fast approaching. Then a stranded motorist without gas or money saw me pull into a parking lot in a hurry. "Are you that far behind?” he said. I quickly said “Yeah,” as the man started raging about his desperate situation. It was then that I realized I had let the pressures of the world consume my day. I cut time with my family short. I aggravated another driver on the interstate by my reckless speeding. I didn't even help the stranded motorist, because I was under too much pressure to accomplish my own task before it got too late. I had become a victim of what I was witnessing, and I didn’t even realize it. Suddenly, I began to understand what Brother Branham was talking about on the tape.
So often in our day to day walk, we can feel the devil nipping at our heels, trying to rattle us with the pressures of this world and get our minds off the Word.
Brother Branham said,
And we know the coming of the Lord is at hand, and the Bible said in the last days that the devil would go about like a roaring lion. And if he could get you under pressure, hurrying, running over something, you'll make decisions that you wouldn't make if you'd set down and think it over.
There is a constant pressure in the hectic world that we live in. From family life, to personal life, to work and church life, everyone seems to be consumed by it to the point of bursting. Even the people of the world can feel the building tension. They are on the run trying to give vent, but they don’t know how, why, or where to begin. We do!
Take the time to lay aside the cares and pressures in your life. Relax and listen to the Word of God, and you’ll feel the pressure lift. God has given us a way of escape, a satisfying Refuge. Take hold of It. “Come to Christ the Refuge and let off the pressure. Settle it once for all.”
